The Feldenkrais Method® is a unique and innovative approach to improving movement, posture, thinking and overall well-being. It is a gentle and highly effective way to enhance your physical and mental awareness, leading to greater comfort and ease in everyday activities.

It was developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, a physicist and engineer, and it's based on the idea that by becoming more aware of our movements and habits, we can unlock our body's potential for improved function and reduced pain or discomfort. This happens through the amazing phenomenon of neuroplasticity - the brain's remarkable ability to adapt, change, and reorganise itself in response to experiences, learning, and environmental influences. Through the Feldenkrais Method®, we come to know ourselves better and find optimal ways to function regardless of any challenges we face.

There are two ways Feldenkrais is taught: Awareness Through Movement®

Group lessons which are verbally led and often start lying down or sometimes sitting or standing. There is no copying the teacher or getting it right. You’re guided through a precise movement exploration and there is time to exchange afterwards. People often report a variety of positive feelings and sensations. Classes offer a fresh movement theme each time, so if you like variety, this could be for you.

Functional Integration®

Individual sessions which take place in comfortable, everyday clothes sitting or lying on a padded table. You are gently guided through a range of safe, easy movement explorations, designed to bring awareness to parts of yourself that may not usually move much. Together with the practitioner, we explore new ways of moving and organising your whole system (mind, brain, muscles and skeleton). As you sense the new movement patterns, you find your movement options expanded. Many people find their thinking and feeling acquires new ease, as well as their body.

I’ve been practising the Feldenkrais Method® since 2003 and teaching since 2005. I continue to grow and learn every day! If you’d like to join me and discover what this novel method can do for you, come along to a class at Shakti Den:

Tuesdays 11am Awareness Through Movement®

Tuesdays 6pm Pregnant Pauses® (for pregnant people)

Or book in for a one-on-one session on Tuesdays before or after the morning class.
